The Super Eagles will not know their final list for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations until Thursday 11 December, with coach Eric Chelle set to make his last selections just hours before the Confederation of African Football deadline, Footynaija.com reports.
This update follows days of uncertainty around the team’s preparations, especially after the national side’s pre-AFCON friendly against Egypt was moved from its original date.
The long provisional list released earlier this month showed how wide Chelle had cast his net, with experienced internationals, returning regulars, youngsters and a number of domestic league players all included.
According to a report by The Nation, sources close to the Super Eagles manager said the announcement will come on Thursday.
“The final squad for the AFCON will be out on Thursday, December 11,” the source told said.
As revealed in earlier reports, Raphael Onyedika and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro were earlier named among the players expected to make the trip to Morocco, with recent reports confirming their inclusion following solid club performances and encouraging signals from the national team setup.
Their inclusion adds depth to an already familiar core that includes the likes of Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon and others who were also part of Eric Chelle’s wider group in the early stages of the build-up.
These confirmations offer a stronger sense of what the Super Eagles will look like when the final list drops, with the midfield and attack forming around players who have been key to Nigeria’s setup through the qualifiers and warm-up games.
