From Croatia to Turkey and from the Premier League to the Super Lig, Nigerian footballers delivered a wave of contrasting emotions on a decisive weekend for their AFCON 2025 prospects, Footynaija.com reports.
Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey should all be in Nigeria’s final squad to Morocco despite Fulham suffering a 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace at the Craven Cottage.
Christantus Uche may have done his AFCON hopes a world of good with an impressive cameo for Palace in the encounter.
The on loan Getafe did well to win the cornerkick that led to the late winning goal for the Eagles.
Olanrewaju Kayode led the charge in Turkey with two goals and an assist in Erokspor’s 4–1 demolition of Sakaryaspor, taking him to 10 goals for the season.
The former Manchester City forward is now the second-highest scorer in the division and one of the continent’s most in-form forwards.
Paul Onuachu produced a fantastic display in attack and defence as Trabzonspor carved out a fine 2-1 win at Göztepe.
The Super Eagles striker, still a doubt to make Nigeria’s AFCON squad, failed to add to his 11 league goals this term. However, with Trabzonspor reduced to ten men in the final 12 minutes, Onuachu converted to a centre-back and registered a game-high clearances while winning the most aerial duels.

Still, Super Eagles hopeful Anthony Dennis grabbed a late consolation strike for Trabzonspor with a stoppage-time thunderbolt, his fourth goal of the campaign.
Tagged the next Wilfred Ndidi, Dennis may yet to be included in the Super Eagles’ final squad for AFCON 2025.
In Croatia, rising striker Salim Fago strengthened his AFCON case. The 22-year-old rounded off NK Istra’s 5–1 victory at Osijek with his fourth goal of the season, further justifying his inclusion in Nigeria’s provisional squad.
A couple of Super Falcons stars also made the headlines with their excellent showings.
Chiamaka Nnadozie put on a goalkeeping masterclass for Brighton Women, making five saves and keeping a clean sheet in their 1-0 win at London City Lionesses.
A HUGE moment for Honaka Hayashi.
