The Democratic Republic of Congo produced a stunning 1-0 victory over Cameroon in Rabat to book their place in Sunday’s FIFA World Cup CAF qualifying playoff final against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Footynaija.com reports.
In a tight, tactical contest, both sides cancelled each other out for most of the match, sharing possession and creating few chances.
With extra time looming, captain Chancel Mbemba struck in the 91st minute, ghosting in at the back post to turn home from a corner and send the Congolese bench into wild celebration.
It was a disciplined and determined display from DR Congo, who nullified a Cameroonian team featuring Bryan Mbeumo, Carlos Baleba, and Andre Onana. The victory leaves them one win away from a place in next year’s intercontinental playoffs, and potentially their first World Cup appearance since 1974.
Earlier, Nigeria secured their spot in the final with a thrilling 4-1 extra-time win over Gabon.
Akor Adams opened the scoring in the 76th minute, before Mario Lemina’s deflected effort forced extra time.
Victor Osimhen then took charge, scoring twice with trademark power and composure, while Chidera Ejuke added a fourth goal. The result sets up a mouthwatering final between Nigeria and DR Congo, their first-ever competitive meeting, with both teams just one step away from history.
