Victor Osimhen took time to reflect on his stoppage-time miss against Gabon after notching a superb brace to seal a 4-1 win for the Super Eagles at the Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex on Thursday night, Footynaija.com reports.
Osimhen lived through the full striker experience in Rabat. At the end of normal time, he was holding his head in disbelief after squandering a gilt-edged chance that could’ve wrapped up the contest with the last kick of the game.
But like all big forwards do, Osimhen shook off the disappointment and returned for extra time with a point to prove. The masked hitman went on to deliver a wonderful brace as Nigeria powered to a 4–1 victory.
“I was gutted,” Osimhen said of his last-gasp miss in normal time, per quotes revealed by The Evening Standard. “But as a person and as a striker, I had to keep it moving.
“It was bad. After I missed the opportunity, I saw the referee said we were going into extra time. I told my team-mates I’m sorry guys, I will correct it in extra time.
“If I let it get into my head, I don’t think I would have been able to grab those two goals. For me it’s important because sometimes as a striker, you score the one… people believe that you cannot score.
“And then you miss the one that people say you can score, which is normal. But I’m human, I make mistakes, which is normal. For me, I just had to keep it moving and congratulations also to the team for this performance.”
Next up for Osimhen and the Super Eagles is the World Cup play-offs final DR Congo, who dispatched Cameroon in their own semi-final. Both teams will clash on Sunday, November 16 with their winner progressing into the inter-confederation play-offs slated for March 2026.
