Eric Chelle has definitely had a solid impact on the Nigeria national team since assuming command of its affairs back in January and Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has shed some light on what it’s been like to work with the Super Eagles head coach, Footynaija.com reports.
Chelle took charge of a Super Eagles team struggling in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, receiving the mandate to immediately improve their position and ultimately qualify them for the tournament.
While automatic qualification slipped through Nigeria’s grasp, Chelle successfully reignited belief in the Super Eagles squad, guiding them into the play-offs phase where they remain in strong contention for a World Cup ticket.
Speaking about Chelle’s impact since taking charge of the Nigeria national team, Iwobi was full of admiration for the former Mali boss, describing him as more than just a coach.

“Our manager constantly reminds us that we’re able to push through all circumstances,” the former Arsenal star explained to BBC Sport.
“He’s such a great man. We almost don’t see him as like a manager, but like a big brother. He’s created a big brotherhood.
“You see him on the touchline. He gets heated – he’s literally trying to fight for us. It motivates us, that we want to play not just for Nigeria but for him as well.”
Chelle’s results as Super Eagles boss speak for themselves as the three-time African champions remain unbeaten under his watch, with five wins and four draws from nine matches. Impressively, four of those victories have come in Nigeria’s last six World Cup qualifying games.
Chelle will be aiming to extend that unbeaten run when the Super Eagles face Gabon in the CAF World Cup play-off semi-final on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat.
