Nigeria’s Super Falcons strengthened their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a confident 2–0 win over Benin on Friday in Lomé, Footynaija.com reports.
Goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo, both assisted by the impressive Deborah Abiodun, sealed victory in the first leg of their final qualifying round. The match was played at the Stade de Kégué as Benin lack a CAF-approved home ground.
After twice hitting the woodwork early on, Nigeria finally broke through when Ihezuo lobbed home following Abiodun’s precise pass. Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made a key save before Okoronkwo doubled the lead with a composed finish just before half-time.
Coach Justin Madugu’s side, featuring experienced defender Osinachi Ohale on her 80th cap and debutants Taiwo Afolabi and Joy Omewa, controlled the second half to secure a professional win.
Nigeria will host the return leg in Abeokuta on Monday, October 28, with a place at Morocco 2026 within reach.
