Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has asked Nigerians to keep believing in the Super Eagles despite the precarious situation they currently find themselves in the ongoing race to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Footynaija.com reports.

The Super Eagles are in dire straits as they currently sit fourth in Group C with seven points, are six points behind leaders South Africa and have only four games to try and salvage their World Cup dreams.

They will face Rwanda and South Africa on September 6 and 9 respectively, in must-win games and Dele-Bashiru is calling on Nigerian fans to offer their maximum support to the national team as they take on this daunting task.

What Fisayo Dele-Bashiru said

“All the players, coaching staff and fans have the same expectations for these upcoming games of the World Cup qualifiers, and that’s to win the games,” he told Ademola Victor TV.

“We are in a difficult situation now, six points off the top but everyone knows what we need to do, and that’s what we are going to work towards. We’ve got a few more players coming in today, so once the squad is complete, the work really starts, and I’m confident we will get the job done.

“Just show a lot of belief in us. The game is not over until the final whistle is blown, and the team is going to make everyone proud.

“The World Cup is the biggest stage for a footballer in your career, especially playing for your country, it will be a very massive moment for not just me but all the players here.

“It will be a massive moment for all the staff and fans, so that’s what we are working towards. God willing, we will win the next two World Cup qualifying games and take it from there after that.”

With most of the squad members now present in camp, the Super Eagles have commenced preparations for the upcoming games in earnest. Eric Chelle side will have the cushion of home support when they take on Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday.
