Nigeria international Jennifer Echegini has been brought up to speed about the workings on the street of Lagos as jubilant Super Falcons players toured the city following their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph, Footynaija.com reports.
Born in the Netherlands, raised in England and nurtured in the United States, Echegini has never experienced living in Nigeria for an extended period until now.
However, on Wednesday, as the celebration of the Super Falcons’ title win at the WAFCON continued, Echegini had to be given a light-hearted yet serious warning about the risks of opening a bus window in Lagos.

In a video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Super Falcons were filmed interacting with fans from inside a team bus in Lagos.
PSG midfielder Echegini, who scored the crucial winning goal in Nigeria’s bitterly disputed 3-2 win over Morocco in the final, was eager to get closer to the celebratory atmosphere.
“Asisat [Oshoala], me I wan open window,” Echegini said cheerfully in Pidgin English.

But her enthusiasm was quickly met with a word of caution. A team-mate, whose face wasn’t visible in the video, responded immediately: “No open nah, na Lagos you dey, them fit thief your phone sit down.”
The Super Falcons’ celebration tour in Lagos followed an official reception in Abuja, where President Bola Tinubu honoured the team with national awards and cash gifts for winning Nigeria’s tenth WAFCON title. The Nigerian women’s national remains the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
The Super Falcons’ ten WAFCON titles represent a global record, surpassing even the United States’ nine CONCACAF championships and China’s nine in the AFC competition.
