Super Eagles and Birmingham City defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has opened up on his issues with the Turkish media and the series of events that preceded his failed transfer to Besiktas earlier this summer, Footynaija.com reports.
Before signing for Birmingham City, Osayi-Samuel, a free agent after failing to secure a contract renewal at Fenerbahce, was heavily linked with a move to the Yellow Canaries’ Turkish Super Lig rivals Besiktas Istanbul.
That move eventually collapsed after Besiktas accused Osayi-Samuel’s father of going overboard with financial demands. However, the Super Eagles star has now revealed that there was no truth to such claims. He went ahead to suggest that he was being scapegoated.
What Bright Osayi-Samuel said

“The Turkish media… I’ve had a lot of issues with them. Maybe they are picking on me or something,” the former Queens Park Rangers star said, as revealed by the Birmingham Mail.
“There was interest from Besiktas, which is the rival of my team, and they wanted to sign me and spoke to my agent but I never had interest to go there.
“I played four years at Fenerbahce and they did a lot for me so it was impossible for me to go but then they made an article saying my dad was asking for too much money and that’s just the Turkish way.
“I had no interest in going there and when I heard about Birmingham, I wanted to come here.”

Osayi-Samuel’s final days in Turkey were tumultuous to say the least. The controversial transfer saga with Besiktas was preceded by a burglary of the Nigerian defender’s private residence, with expensive personal items reported missing.
With the EFL Championship billed to kick off in exactly one week, Osayi-Samuel will be eager to cast aside his Turkish troubles and turn his focus to helping Birmingham City achieve their aim of securing Premier League promotion.
