Eric Chelle-tutored Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles produced a discipline performance to clinch a 2-0 victory over Ojodu City in a closed-door friendly, Footynaija.com reports.

The match, played at the Remo Stars training complex in Ikenne, served as a crucial warm-up for the home-based Super Eagles ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August 2.

Despite dominating possession in the first half, the Super Eagles B found it difficult to crack open a well-organised Ojodu City defence. The Lagos-based side proved to be no pushovers, sitting deep and threatening on the break.

However, Chelle’s halftime tweaks paid dividends almost instantly. The CHAN Eagles returned with renewed purpose, pressing higher up the pitch and moving the ball more decisively.

Midfielder Anthony Ijeoma of Abia Warriors broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, latching onto a loose ball in the box to put Nigeria ahead.

With momentum on their side, the Eagles piled on the pressure and eventually sealed the win in the 87th minute when Kwara United’s Afeez Bankole surged forward from full-back to slot past the goalkeeper.

Chelle will be encouraged by the improved second-half performance and the intensity shown by players fighting to secure spots in the final CHAN squad.

The CHAN tournament, which features only players from domestic leagues, offers Nigeria a golden opportunity to win their maiden title — something Chelle is determined to deliver.
