Inter Milan have opened fresh contract talks with Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, as the Serie A side continue long-term squad planning while currently in the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup, Footynaija.com reports.

The 20-year-old spent the just-concluded 2024–2025 season on loan at Serie B side Sampdoria and remains under contract with Inter until June 2026.

Akinsanmiro, who began his career at Remo Stars before securing a move to Inter in January 2023, featured prominently during his loan at Sampdoria. He made 35 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing one assist.

Akinsanmiro in action for Sampdoria vs Genoa, in Coppa Italia

His performances stood out in a tough season that ended with Sampdoria’s relegation.

As revealed by MSN Africa, Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed the report stating that Inter are keen to renew Akinsanmiro’s deal beyond its current expiry, having been impressed by his progress and professional attitude during his time away from the club.

Akinsanmiro made his Serie A debut for Inter in February 2024 during a 4–0 win over Lecce, and was loaned out to gain experience.

His current loan at Sampdoria officially runs until June 30, 2025, after which he is expected to return to Inter unless another arrangement is made.

For Nigeria, Akinsanmiro is a rising prospect many believe could eventually play a role in the Super Eagles midfield. His development at Inter is being closely followed by national team observers, especially as Nigeria seeks to build a younger, more technical core.

The contract renewal, if finalised, would signal Inter’s commitment to grooming the Nigerian talent further. It remains to be seen whether the club will send him out on another loan, possibly to a Serie A side, or begin integrating him into Cristian Chivu’s plans for next season.
