“Nigeria has more raw talents than Senegal” – Expert claims, but gives one reason why the Super Eagles may still miss World Cup

A leading pitch expert has sent a strong warning to the Nigeria Football Federation, insisting that the Super Eagles may still fail to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite having better football talents than Senegal, Footynaija.com reports.

Ebi Egbe, the Managing Director of Monimichelle Sports Facility Construction Ltd, made the statement while speaking in an interview. He argued that while the debate continues over where Nigeria’s next home games will be played, the focus should not be on stadium size but rather the quality of the playing surface.

Egbe blames Nigeria’s poor pitch conditions as the biggest threat to the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualification hopes. He stressed that without upgrading the pitches the Super Eagles use at home, their World Cup dreams could end in disappointment.

“Nigeria has more raw talents than Senegal, but we don’t have pitches to support these raw talents,” Egbe said in a chat with Sports 247.

“So, let’s put all fingers together to make it better.”

According to him, the recent Unity Cup win in London and the 1-1 draw with Russia in Moscow were not just about team quality but also the world-class hybrid pitches used in those matches.

He noted that the Super Eagles played on a high-performance surface at Brentford and then at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow — conditions that allowed the players to thrive.

Citing Senegal’s away win against England at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground, Egbe pointed out how good pitches are now helping African teams get better results. He insisted that Nigeria’s footballing potential will always be limited if the quality of home playing surfaces is not fixed.

“Senegal is doing well today because they invested on pitches. Nigeria’s national team is made up of elite players, but we don’t have elite pitches to support our style of play… which is an elite style of play. So, we will always have problems when they come home to play,” he added.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to host Rwanda in September and Benin Republic in October in their final home matches of the CAF World Cup qualifiers. But fans and stakeholders remain unsure about the venue, as the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo is under fire for its uninspiring atmosphere, with Nigeria drawing their last four home games there.
