Breaking the bank to secure Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen’s signature this summer will not be enough to guarantee UEFA Champions League glory for Turkish giants Galatasaray according to former Super Lig manager, Sergen Yalcin, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Lig champions have made no secret of their desire to retain Osimhen within their ranks following a sensational season-long loan spell that saw him bang in 36 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions.
Osimhen’s heroics established him as a fan favourite at RAMS Park with the Nigerian marksman’s goals delivering a 25th Super Lig title and a first Turkish Cup triumph in six years. The 26-year-old also claimed the Super Lig top scorer award.

Despite Galatasaray’s desire to keep the Nigerian, they face competition from teams all across Europe’s top five leagues. For the Turkish champions to beat this competition, they would have to convince Osimhen to remain in Istanbul and fork out a transfer fee in the region of €75 million.
This fee is considered outrageous by former Besiktas Istanbul manager Sergen Yalcin. The current Turkish transfer record stands at €19.5 million (Youssef En-Nesyri to Fenerbahce) and Yalcin believes Osimhen’s price tag is unrealistic for any Turkish side.
What Sergen Yalcin said about Osimhen

“Osimhen is a very good player, but a figure like 80 million Euros is not realistic in this league!” Yalcin said in quotes revealed by Ege’de SonSöz.
“Yes, Osimhen should be acquired, but not by paying 80 million Euros. These figures are a dream in such a league. Let’s be realistic.”
Galatasaray believe that Osimhen’s presence in their ranks next season will offer a huge boost for their Champions League ambitions but Yalcin doesn’t think the Nigerian alone can deliver the goods at that level.
“Will Galatasaray win the Champions League by getting Osimhen? Do you really believe that? These things cannot be done with just transfers. Planning, squad depth, system… It’s all a whole.”
As the summer transfer window draws even closer, Osimhen’s future will continue to be a hot topic of discussion.
