Saviour Godwin was one of the names on everyone’s lips as the Saudi Pro League wrapped up its 2024–25 season in dramatic fashion, Footynaija.com reports.
Playing away to Al Khaleej on May 26, 2025, Al Akhdoud were staring at relegation until a chaotic stoppage-time twist changed everything. With the score at 2-1 in favour of Al Khaleej, Godwin stepped up in the 90+5 minute with a smart assist that led to a 2-2 equaliser. That goal alone was massive, but the drama was far from over.
Ten minutes later, in the 90+15 minute, Al Akhdoud were awarded a penalty, which they calmly converted to complete a stunning 3-2 comeback. The win meant Al Akhdoud finished the season outside the relegation zone, securing their spot in the Saudi top flight next season after 34 matches played.
Godwin’s name now joins a short list of Nigerians who will be featuring again in the Saudi Pro League next term, including Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, who plays for Al Kholood. Ths global icon, Cristiano Ronaldo, was also confirmed as the Saudi Pro League’s top scorer for the second season running.
Saviour Godwin ends the season with 7 goals and 4 assists. His clutch performances, especially in recent matches, have played a direct role in saving his club.
Earlier in April, he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Al Kholood, a result that proved just as valuable in the long run for the team’s promotion hopes and overall league standing.
