Wilfred Ndidi’s Leicester City engraved their name into the wrong side of football history on Monday night, following a crushing 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium, Footynaija.com reports.

With the loss to Newcastle, Leicester City became the first team in Football League history to lose eight consecutive home games without scoring a goal, as per Opta via the Athletic

With Premier League relegation looming, the Foxes were hoping to salvage some pride and secure a rare home victory — only their third of the campaign.

But Newcastle, chasing Champions League qualification, made light work of the hosts, with Jacob Murphy netting twice and Harvey Barnes adding a third to compound Leicester’s misery.

The result leaves Leicester 19th in the table with just 17 points from 30 games, a daunting 15 points adrift of safety and 17th-placed Wolves.

In addition to the eight-game scoreless run, the defeat marked Leicester’s 11th home loss of the season — the most in the club’s history.

They also became only the second side in top-flight history to fail to score in eight consecutive home matches, after Manchester City in 2007.

Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, now managing the team, will be desperate to end the alarming run when Leicester visit Brighton on Saturday, April 12. Their next home fixture sees them host title-chasing Liverpool on April 20.

Uncertainty continues to surround Ndidi’s future at the club.

The Nigerian international, who was linked with a January move to Monaco, could be on the move again this summer, with Leicester’s potential relegation opening the door for interested European clubs.

Ndidi, 28, has featured 214 times in the Premier League, scoring seven goals and registering 13 assists. Across all competitions for Leicester, he has 297 appearances, 18 goals, and 21 assists, and has won both the FA Cup and the Community Shield.
