Nigerian winger Nathan Tella is back in full training and is expected to be part of Bayer Leverkusen’s squad for Sunday’s Bundesliga match away to FC St. Pauli, Footynaija.com reports.

The 25-year-old was subbed off at half-time during last weekend’s goalless draw against Union Berlin after suffering a knock to the head, but tests have since cleared him of any concussion.

According to a report by Rotowire, Tella has now resumed training without restrictions. Manager Xabi Alonso confirmed during his pre-match press conference that the Nigerian is fit and available for selection.

Tella even joined Florian Wirtz, Arthur and Victor Boniface for an additional session earlier this week, while the rest of the squad were given the day off, as reported by BILD.

Tella has made 35 appearances for the Werkself in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists. Currently, Alonso’s team holds second place in the Bundesliga, while FC St. Pauli sits in 15th.

Tella’s return also comes at a good time for his international ambitions. The winger hopes to catch Eric Chelle’s eye at the Unity Cup in London, after previously making the World Cup qualifier squad before an injury forced him out.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash at St. Pauli, the former Southampton star was assessed thoroughly after the head injury and was cleared to rejoin the group. The coaching staff have been cautious, but all signs point to a green light for the weekend.

Tella’s availability will be welcome news not just for Leverkusen fans, but also for Nigerian supporters tracking their players across Europe.
