Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman as they prepare for a major attacking overhaul this summer, with the Serie A club demanding €60 million for the in-form Nigerian, Footynaija.com reports.

The Red Devils’ recent 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest once again underlined their lack of firepower in front of goal.

Ruben Amorim is reportedly unconvinced by Rasmus Hojlund’s performances this season, while Joshua Zirkzee, more of a creative forward than a natural goalscorer, may not provide the cutting edge United desperately need.

With Alejandro Garnacho’s long-term future unclear and Amad Diallo potentially deployed at wing-back next season, United are exploring options for a dynamic, versatile attacker. Lookman, who has been outstanding for Atalanta since joining from RB Leipzig in 2022, fits the bill perfectly.

The 27-year-old has scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in just 28 starts across all competitions this season, averaging a goal contribution every 92 minutes.

Comfortable playing across the front line — as a striker, winger or attacking midfielder — his versatility and end-product have attracted interest from Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Juventus.

CaughtOffside reports that United are prepared to meet Atalanta’s €60m valuation, with talks already scheduled with Lookman’s representatives later in April. The player is also understood to be keen on a return to the Premier League.

A reported falling-out with Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has made the Italian club more open to a sale, potentially smoothing the path for United. With INEOS prioritising proven Premier League experience and explosive forward options, Lookman’s profile ticks many of the right boxes.

It remains to be seen whether United opt for a specialist centre-forward or the all-round threat that Lookman offers.
