Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle is reportedly keeping a close watch on Borussia’s Carney Chukwuemeka, Footynaija.com reports.
The 21-year-old midfielder, currently on loan from Chelsea, has been turning heads with his impressive displays in the Bundesliga.
Reports indicate that his strong form has caught the eye of Nigeria’s coaching staff as they build for the future.
After struggling with injuries at Chelsea, Chukwuemeka joined Dortmund in January, and he is quickly rediscovering his best form.
The German club is now planning to make his move permanent, with a €30 million fee set to be triggered if they secure a Champions League spot.
Chukwuemeka recently netted his first goal for Dortmund in a win over SC Freiburg. His rise at Dortmund has put him firmly in the spotlight, both at club level and internationally.
Although he has represented England at youth levels, Chukwuemeka is still eligible to play for Nigeria due to his Nigerian roots.
The Super Eagles have been closely following his progress, with the talented midfielder on Eric Chelle’s radar.
Reports previously suggested that Chukwuemeka and Chelsea teammate Lesley Ugochukwu were considering switching allegiances to Nigeria. However, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) swiftly denied these claims, stating that only the federation can initiate such a move.
Despite the NFF’s clarification, the Super Eagles are still keen on Chukwuemeka’s potential inclusion. His decision to represent Nigeria could be in the cards down the line.
Alongside him, players like Tosin Adarabioyo and Faustino Anjorin are also being closely monitored by the Super Eagles.
Chukwuemeka’s future with Nigeria is definitely one to watch in the coming months.
