German Bundesliga side Augsburg do not intend to sign Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka on a permanent basis upon the expiration of his current loan deal, Footynaija.com understands.
Onyeka, originally a Brentford player, signed with Augsburg on a season-long loan last summer after struggling to secure regular game time with Thomas Frank’s Bees in the Premier League.

Having featured in the starting XI in just 11 of his 26 Premier League appearances for Brentford last season, the 27-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a far more regular involvement in the Bundesliga, tallying 24 starts in 25 appearances so far.
However, despite Onyeka’s apparent importance to Die Fuggerstädter, the German club reportedly have no intentions of making his stay at the Augsburg Arena a permanent one.
According to journalist Florian Plettenburg, Augsburg are not pursuing a permanent move for the Nigerian, with no discussions currently underway between the two clubs. As a result, Onyeka is expected to return to Brentford once his loan spell ends at the conclusion of the season.
With the current campaign already into its closing stages and two years left to run on his contract with the Bees, Onyeka’s return to the Gtech Community Stadium is imminent.
However, having been deemed surplus to requirements this season, it would appear that the former FC Midtjylland star no longer has a place in Thomas Frank’s plans.

Another loan move or perhaps a permanent departure could be on the cards for Onyeka this summer. For now though, he’ll be focused on finishing the season strongly and giving potential suitors something to think about.
