Nigeria’s Super Eagles are gearing up for a must-win World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on March 22, and winger Ademola Lookman insists the team is fully focused on the task ahead, Footynaija.com reports.

The Atalanta forward, who will be making his first appearance for Nigeria since being crowned Africa’s Best Player, will play a key role as the Super Eagles chase a historic first win in Rwanda.

With their qualification hopes on the line, anything less than three points in Kigali would severely dent Nigeria’s chances of reaching the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Despite the high stakes, Lookman remains composed.

In an exclusive chat with journalist Ojora Babatunde, the 26-year-old dismissed any talk of pressure, emphasizing the team’s confidence and preparation.

“There’s no pressure, I’m just glad to be back with the squad, back with the guys. We have a big task ahead of us, and we are looking forward to it,” Lookman stated.

“No pressure at all. I’m just really happy to be back with the squad and the guys. We’ve got a big challenge ahead, and we’re all excited to take it on.”

With the Super Eagles under new management following the appointment of Eric Chelle, Lookman also shed light on the team’s tactical preparations.

The winger revealed that the squad has been fully engaged in extensive meetings and training sessions to align with Chelle’s philosophy.

“We’ve had loads of meetings — how the manager wants us to play, our game plan, aspects of how we defend and attack. It’s all positive, and we’re all keying into his ideas
,” Lookman explained.

The forward expressed satisfaction with the training camp, stating that the players are adapting well to Chelle’s approach.

“We’ve had our second session today, and yesterday’s session went well as well, so positive feelings. Before training, we had meetings, so we were just implementing that in training,” he added.

With the road to the 2026 World Cup taking shape, the Super Eagles know they cannot afford any slip-ups. Rwanda represent their first major test under Chelle’s guidance, and Nigeria will be keen to send a strong message in Kigali.

Victory on Friday would not only boost their qualification hopes but also mark a significant step forward under the new era.
