Victor Osimhen has made it clear that lifting the Turkish Super Lig title with Galatasaray would be more than just a sporting achievement—it’s personal, Footynaija.com reports.

Speaking on John Obi Mikel’s podcast, the Super Eagles striker opened up about his passion for the club, his determination to win silverware, and his deep-rooted motivation to prove a point.

The Nigerian forward, who joined the Turkish giants in a high-profile move, left no doubts about his commitment to the club.

“We have a lot to improve, but to be honest, we should not forget the quality this team has,” Osimhen said.

“Icardi is injured for the rest of the season. We have a strong squad. The goals I score are not important. I am fighting for everyone. All I want is for Galatasaray to win. I want to be champions with Galatasaray. It would be great to be champions back to back. If we win, I will be the happiest person. I need to give a clear message to some people. This is a personal matter for me. I have to give my best.”

The 25-year-old was overwhelmed by the welcome he received upon arriving in Türkiye, describing it as something out of a film.

“This is a great club. It’s one of the best clubs in the world. It’s the best in Türkiye,” Osimhen said. “When I arrived, I felt like there would be an incredible welcome. This is a big family. I feel privileged to be here. It’s great to be here. I didn’t know that the plane was being followed by fans when we left Naples. I was very impressed. It was like a movie scene for me.”

Despite his enthusiasm, Osimhen admitted he had not had the ideal start to the season.

“I didn’t have a very good pre-season. Some things were mixed. I’m trying to get back to full form,” he revealed. “Even if I don’t score or make assists, I can still fight for my teammates. The only thing that matters to me is to win. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”

The former Napoli star is known for his relentless self-improvement and acknowledged there is still room for growth in his game.

“I am my own biggest critic. I feel I can do more. I score one or two goals in a match, but I feel I can do more. I am trying to improve myself. I have become one of the best players in my position, but there are things I can improve on,” he said.

Osimhen also spoke about his close relationship with Belgian forward Dries Mertens, whom he played alongside at Napoli.

“Dries has always treated me like a big brother,” Osimhen said. “He was an incredible person when we played together in Napoli. He and his wife, his whole family, helped me a lot. I am used to his style of play, but I have not yet fully adapted. It takes time. He is one of the players I have enjoyed playing with the most on the pitch.”

On his decision to join Galatasaray, Osimhen explained that it didn’t take long for him to be convinced.

“When I thought about everything that happened, I had already made my decision. I just continued training and doing my job,” he said.

“I had watched Galatasaray’s Young Boys match in the Champions League. When I got the call, I talked to the coach. They were away. We talked. They told me about the project, and I saw his passion for the game. He talked about his goals, the city, and the people. As we talked, my interest increased, and I said, okay, let’s do it. He said, ‘Victor, are you serious?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ Then I got a call from the vice presidents. I said, ‘Let’s do the transfer. If you’re ready, I’m ready.’ It was a special moment.”

Osimhen has already made a strong impact at Galatasaray, featuring in 29 matches this season and scoring 23 goals.
