Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has extended a helping hand to the Muslim community in Nottingham by sponsoring hot meal provisions during Ramadan, Footynaija.com reports.

The Nigerian international partnered with Himmah, a social justice organization, to support those observing the holy month and promote unity within the community.

Awoniyi, known for his generosity on and off the pitch, emphasized the importance of giving back.

“I’m just trying to show love to the community, trying to spread love, to show this month that is so important to my Muslim brothers and also Lent month to the Christians. It’s a way of giving back to the community and bringing everyone together in love.”

The 27-year-old further explained his motivation behind the initiative, saying,

“It doesn’t matter if it’s your time, if it’s your resources, it’s just a way that everyone can be powerful to each other, and growing up that has been my goal. It has always been in me to try and assist in my own little way. Also, I try to develop the next generation of kids as well and it’s something that I hold dearly to me and which is very, very important to me.”

A representative from Himmah acknowledged Awoniyi’s contribution as crucial, particularly in filling a gap in their sponsorship schedule.

“Himmah is a social justice charity specializing in tackling poverty, racism, and educational inequalities in Nottingham. This is one of the only nights of the week that we struggle to get a sponsor for our hot meal provisions. So when Taiwo came forward and said, ‘I want to provide food for a community Iftar,’ we felt it had to be on Wednesday, during that gap we were missing, when so many walking our streets in Hyson Green, Radford, and NG7 are going hungry.”

Meanwhile, Awoniyi could be set for a key role in Nottingham Forest’s FA Cup quarter-final against Brighton, with Chris Wood ruled out due to injury.

The Nigerian striker, who started in Forest’s fifth-round victory over Ipswich, will be eager to step up as Nuno Espírito Santo’s side push for their first FA Cup triumph in 66 years.

The former Union Berlin star was not invited for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe this month.
