Super Eagles and Rangers defender Leon Balogun was less than satisfied with his side’s display during their 2-1 loss to Motherwell at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday, Footynaija.com reports.

First half goals from Motherwell’s Luke Armstrong and Tom Sparrow put Balogun’s Rangers two goals down before half time.

Fellow Super Eagles star Cyriel Dessers halved the home side’s deficit in the second half but they couldn’t find that all-important equalizer.

Balogun helped Rangers secure a second-half shutout after coming on as a substitute. However, the 36-year-old who only recently made his return from injury was forced to settle for a defeat as the Blues failed to mount a comeback.

Saturday’s defeat was Rangers’ third in their last five games, leaving them further behind runaway Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic.

Speaking to Rangers TV following the disappointing defeat, Balogun was very critical of his team’s performance, especially in the first half.

“The dressing room is probably as flat as our first half was. That’s where the whole truth in the game lies, I think.

“If we start a game of football like that at Ibrox, again, after Wednesday night [vs Kilmarnock] where I thought the team showed great character, I think it’s only right you get a certain reaction from the crowd.

“There’s a lot of disappointment, and I don’t think I have to say it, it’s quite obvious. If you believe in this club and you’ve been let down many times.

“After a performance like that, there are sounds you hear, and you then know you’re far off it.”

Balogun, who has had to make do with the substitute role in his last four appearances for the Blues, will be aiming for more regular game time as he eyes a return to the Super Eagles squad.
