A towering figure in goal, Okala was Nigeria’s dominant shot-stopper throughout the 1970s. His reflexes, presence, and leadership made him one of the best goalkeepers in Africa. He played a crucial role in Nigeria’s first-ever AFCON triumph in 1980 and remains a national icon.

Defenders

He was expected to lead Nigeria’s attack in the late 1970s but moved to North America, where he had a successful club career. His goalscoring ability made him one of the best Nigerian forwards never to play in a World Cup.

ST: Aloysius Atuegbu

A powerful and technically brilliant forward, Atuegbu had the strength and skill to lead the line. He was a key part of Nigeria’s 1980 AFCON-winning squad and provided a strong attacking presence alongside Usiyan.
