Valencia striker Umar Sadiq has been awarded La Liga’s Goal of the Month for March 2025, following his audacious backheel strike against Osasuna, Footynaija.com reports.

The Nigerian forward edged out Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu and CD Leganes’ Diego Garcia to claim the honour.

Sadiq’s moment of brilliance came in the 87th minute of Valencia’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Osasuna. With his side trailing, the 27-year-old produced an exquisite backheel finish that left goalkeeper Sergio Herrera rooted to the spot, earning widespread admiration for his technique and composure under pressure.

His award-winning goal was part of a productive month in which he scored three times — twice against Osasuna and once against Real Valladolid. His performances also earned him a nomination for La Liga’s Player of the Month.

Sadiq wasn’t the only Valencia player in the spotlight, as teammate Diego López was named the league’s Best Under-23 Player for March, having matched the Nigerian’s goal tally for the month.

Despite his impressive club form, Sadiq found himself on the sidelines during Nigeria’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. Super Eagles boss Eric Chelle opted for Victor Osimhen to lead the line, with Tolu Arokodare and Victor Boniface selected as backup options.
