Rangers manager Barry Ferguson was full of praise for Cyriel Dessers after the Super Eagles striker’s stoppage time strike fired Rangers to victory over Dundee FC on Saturday, Footynaija.com reports.

Dessers was making his 100th appearance for the Blues and it looked like it would end up in defeat up until the 76th minute.

Despite trailing by two goals on two separate occasions, Ferguson’s men fought back to secure a 4-3 victory with Dessers’ 93rd minute goal securing the win and sending Rangers fans into delirium.

The Nigeria international isn’t always a hero though, with his rollercoaster form in front of goal often attracting criticism from both Rangers fans and the media.

Following the win over Dundee FC, Ferguson praised Dessers’ character, with his admiration for how the 30-year-old striker deals with criticism glaringly obvious.

“He puts himself in brilliant positions, he can get frustrated and start feeling sorry for himself, but he keeps going. He got his reward with the winner,” Ferguson said as per quotes revealed by Rangers News.

“Even before I took the job, I always said the big guy would keep going. If he got criticism from fans and the media, the big man just rolls his sleeves up.

“I didn’t think it would affect him, and it never affected him. He kept going. If you have that type of character, then you get your rewards in the end.”

With no hope of catching Celtic at the summit of the Scottish Premiership table, Rangers will be looking to pour their full might into progressing beyond the quarterfinals in the UEFA Europa League where a two-legged date with Athletic Club awaits.
