Captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the nation’s most capped player, Ahmed Musa has identified his time at CSKA Moscow as the pinnacle of his illustrious career, Soccernet.football reports.

Speaking to Victor Modo, Musa reflected on his footballing journey, which has taken him from Nigeria’s local leagues to Europe’s top stages, including multiple World Cups.

Musa, who began his career at JUTH and Kano Pillars in Nigeria, moved to Europe in 2010 with Dutch side VVV Venlo. His defining chapter, however, came in January 2012, when he joined Russian giants CSKA Moscow.

During his first spell with the club, Musa won three Russian Premier League titles, the Russian Cup, and the Russian Super Cup, cementing himself as a fan favourite.

“I am going to say CSKA Moscow because that is where I had my best career,” Musa admitted. “I stayed long over there, more than five years, won a lot of trophies before I transferred to Leicester City. So for me, I would say my best moment in my club career is CSKA Moscow
.”

His success in Moscow extended to an impressive 94 goal contributions (58 goals and 36 assists) across 184 matches. Musa returned to CSKA briefly in 2018 before the World Cup, adding six goals and three assists in just 10 appearances during his second stint.

Among his career’s standout goals, Musa highlighted a stunning strike against Krasnodar in the 2015-16 Russian Premier League season.

“It was goalless in the dying minutes. After that goal, I was leaving CSKA, so the celebration was massive because the goal was outside the 18-yard box, an unexpected shot,” he recalled.

Additionally, Musa pointed to a goal scored against Al-Nassr, during his first spell at CSKA, as another career-defining moment. “I have a lot, but I’m going to say CSKA Moscow against Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia. I scored one of my best goals.”

Musa’s storied career came full circle in October 2024 when he rejoined Kano Pillars for a third stint, rekindling his connection to the club where he first rose to prominence.
