Juventus 1-1 Cagliari: Motta laments Juve wastefulness after Serie A strugglers snatch late draw

Juventus head coach Thiago Motta was left frustrated as his side failed to capitalize on their dominance, with Razvan Marin’s late equalizer securing a 1-1 draw for Cagliari, Soccernet.football reports.

Serbian forward Dusan Vlahovic had given the Bianconeri an early lead with a penalty, but Marin converted an 88th-minute penalty of his own to deny the hosts two crucial points that would have brought them within one of league leaders Napoli.

Marin’s late goal marked Juve’s first concession in the league this season, but it was their inability to build on the early advantage that left Motta frustrated after Sunday’s draw.

“Already in the first half, after the goal, we were content to control the game. It’s no good,” Motta told DAZN as per Reuters.

“We have to keep attacking. In the second half, we created chances but we didn’t exploit them. There was always the feeling that Cagliari could come back into the game.

“In Serie A, all games are complicated, regardless of who we face and whether we play at home or away. Today we left room for Cagliari to get back into the game.”

Vlahovic missed a golden opportunity to extend Juve’s lead, firing wide on a close-range rebound. However, Motta refused to single out the Serbian for blame, opting instead to emphasize on the need for all round improvement.

“You can’t say anything, it’s a match situation. It happens and will happen,” Motta said. “But there are other things that we can certainly do better in order to compete, to be able to continue to grow.”
