Thomas Tuchel is set to become the new England manager, succeeding Gareth Southgate after Euro 2024, Soccernet.football reports.

The Football Association (FA) has agreed to an 18-month contract with the 51-year-old German, which will commence in January 2025 according to SkySports.

Tuchel, who led Chelsea to Champions League success in 2021, will become only the third non-Englishman to take charge of the national team, following Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

Although the FA has yet to officially confirm the news, a press conference is expected to be held on Wednesday at Wembley, where Tuchel’s appointment could be formally announced.

Interim boss Lee Carsley is expected to continue leading the team for the upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in November.

The FA’s chief executive Mark Bullingham and technical director John McDermott have been in discussions with Tuchel for several weeks, with reports of an agreement first emerging in the German media.

While the FA also reportedly approached Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Tuchel has emerged as the preferred candidate to lead England into their next chapter.

Tuchel’s elite experience, having managed top clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea, has convinced the FA he is the right man to guide the Three Lions forward.

As England look to build on Southgate’s tenure, Tuchel’s tactical expertise and big-game experience are seen as key to future success.
