Del Piero slams Inter Milan’s missed chances in dramatic eight-goal thriller with Juventus

Alessandro Del Piero has described Inter Milan and Juventus as “boxers without a guard” after the two sides battled to a thrilling 4-4 draw at San Siro on Sunday, Soccernet.football reports.

The Juventus icon was speaking on Sky Sport Italia’s post-match analysis, reflecting on the exhilarating but chaotic clash that left fans on the edge of their seats.

“Inter had more than one or two chances to make it 5-2, and I believe this is Inter’s greatest regret, along with some distractions,” Del Piero said. “They had four, five, six chances to score a goal. Di Gregorio was like a superhero, and the ball went inches wide, but they didn’t score the fifth.”

The former Juventus captain, known for his insightful commentary, likened the encounter to a boxing match without defense, adding: “The teams were like boxers without a guard who said, ‘we no longer defend, we just fight, and we see how it ends.’”

Del Piero also praised Juventus’ resilience, noting, “Yildiz had that flash, but the whole Juve had a big personality. They weren’t discouraged when Inter created a goal-scoring opportunity with every attack.”

Fellow ex-Juventus striker Paolo Di Canio added that he was pleased with the entertainment value despite the teams’ defensive lapses, dubbing the game “a defensive disaster.”

With the draw, Juventus remain unbeaten in Serie A, sitting third, five points behind Napoli.

Inter hold a slim lead over Juventus by just one point. The Nerazzurri will visit Empoli on Wednesday, while Juventus prepare to face Parma at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

Del Piero, who scored 290 goals in 705 appearances over 19 seasons with Juventus, remains the club’s all-time top scorer and record appearance holder. His legacy includes multiple Serie A titles, a Champions League trophy, and a World Cup win with Italy in 2006.
