Blackpool has named Steve Bruce as their new manager, signing the 63-year-old to a two-year deal as they look to reverse their poor start to the season, Soccernet.football reports.

Bruce, a Manchester United legend and seasoned manager with over 25 years of experience in English football, steps into the role after the Tangerines missed out on the League One play-offs last season.

Despite his recent struggles at Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion, Bruce’s extensive managerial résumé includes stints in the Premier League and Championship, where he has guided teams to four promotions.

His appointment follows the dismissal of Neil Critchley, with Richard Keogh having served as caretaker manager during the interim.

Reflecting on his return to management, Bruce expressed his excitement: “I’m delighted to be back in football and to take charge of this fantastic football club. I’d like to thank Simon, Julian, and David for giving me this great opportunity.

“I look forward to meeting all of the staff and players in the coming days as we prepare for what we all hope will be an exciting season at Bloomfield Road.”

Bruce’s first match at the helm will be on September 14, with the former central defender also set to face his old club Reading in December.

The Tangerines have yet to win in their first four League One matches, making Bruce’s immediate challenge clear: to stabilize and elevate the team’s performance.

Steve Bruce’s managerial career has seen him take charge of numerous clubs, including successful spells at Birmingham City and Hull City, where he secured two Premier League promotions for each.

His tenure at Hull also featured a memorable run to the 2014 FA Cup Final.

Bruce’s return to management at Blackpool offers him a fresh challenge and an opportunity to rebuild his reputation, aiming to guide the club back towards promotion contention in League One.
