10. Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid) – €25m

Rüdiger’s arrival at Real Madrid in 2022 added a new level of steel to their defense. The Germany international is known for his physicality, tenacity and leadership on the pitch. His experience at the highest level, including winning the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea, has been invaluable to Real Madrid. Rüdiger’s presence in the backline has made Los Blancos even more formidable defensively with the 31-year-old featuring heavily as Los Blancos won the La Liga lasr season alongside a 15th Champions League title.

9. Nahuel Molina (Atlético Madrid) – €28m

Molina joined Atlético Madrid in 2022, and since then, he has been a key player for Diego Simeone’s side. The Argentine right-back is known for his tireless work rate, defensive solidity and ability to contribute to the attack. Molina’s versatility allows him to play as a wing-back or a traditional full-back, making him an essential asset for Atlético. His value has steadily increased since his arrival, and he is now considered one of the top full-backs in La Liga.

8. Christian Mosquera (Valencia) – €30m

The 20-year-old Spaniard has emerged as one of the brightest defensive prospects in La Liga. Valencia has a rich history of developing young talents, and Mosquera is the latest to catch the eye. His ability to read the game, coupled with his composure on the ball, has made him a vital cog in Valencia’s defense. While it’s still quite early to call, his potential is immense and he could soon be among the top defenders in Europe if he continues his development.

7. Pau Cubarsí (Barcelona) – €30m

Another young prodigy, Cubarsí, has quickly risen through the ranks at Barcelona. The Catalan club is famous for nurturing homegrown talent, and the Spaniard is no exception. The 17-year-old center-back has impressed with his calmness under pressure and his ability to play out from the back. While he is still developing physically, his footballing intelligence sets him apart. As he continues to gain experience, Cubarsí is expected to become a mainstay in Barcelona’s defense for years to come.

6. Andreas Christensen (Barcelona) – €40m

Christensen’s move to Barcelona in 2022 was met with high expectations, and the Danish defender has not disappointed. Known for his composure, excellent positioning and aerial ability, the 28-year-old has quickly become a key figure in Barcelona’s backline. His experience and leadership qualities have been invaluable to the team, especially during big matches. As Barcelona seek to rebuild under new manager Hansi Flick, Christensen’s presence in defense will be crucial in their pursuit of domestic and European success this season.

5. Alejandro Balde (Barcelona) – €40m

Balde announced himself as one of the most exciting young left-backs in world football when he displaced a highly experienced Jordi Alba a couple of seasons ago. The 20-year-old boasts a combination of defensive solidity, explosive pace and attacking flair. Balde’s ability to bomb forward and deliver precise crosses provides a much needed dynamism to Barcelona’s attack, while his defensive awareness has improved significantly. We expect the youngster to be a key player for both club and country in the coming years.

4. Robin Le Normand (Atletico Madrid) – €40m

Le Normand has been one of the most consistent performers in La Liga over the past few seasons. The Spanish center-back has been a rock at the heart of Real Sociedad’s defense, helping the Basque club secure European qualification regularly. Le Normand’s ability to read the game, coupled with his strength in duels and aerial prowess, makes him one of the most reliable defenders in the league. His performances have not gone unnoticed with Atletico Madrid snapping up the 27-year-old, following his impressive outing at the Euros.

3. Jules Koundé (FC Barcelona) – €45m

The 25-year-old’s move to FC Barcelona in 2022 was one of the most high-profile transfers in La Liga. The French defender has quickly become a fan favorite at the Camp Nou, thanks to his athleticism, ball-playing ability and versatility. Koundé is equally comfortable at center-back or right-back, making him a vital part of the Blaugrana. His ability to step into midfield and initiate attacks adds another dimension to his game. We expect Koundé’s value to continue to rise as he cements his status as one of the best defenders in La Liga.

2. Éder Militão (Real Madrid) – €60m

The Brazilian has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world since joining Real Madrid in 2019. He possesses a rare combination of speed, strength and technical ability, making him a complete defender. Militão’s partnership with David Alaba was crucial to Los Blancos’ success in the 2022 Champions League. His ability to shut down top attackers and contribute to the build-up play has made him an indispensable part of Ancelotti’s team. We’re backing Militao to make a strong come-back this season after missing virtually all of last season due to injury.

1. Ronald Araújo (FC Barcelona) – €70m

Araújo tops the list as the most valuable defender in La Liga. The Uruguayan center-back has become the backbone of Barcelona’s defense with his exceptional physicality, aerial dominance, and composure on the ball. Araújo’s ability to read the game and make crucial interceptions has earned him comparisons to some of the greatest defenders in Barcelona’s history. At just 25 years old, Araújo is entering the prime of his career, and his value is set to increase even further. As Barcelona looks to return to the pinnacle of European football, Araújo will be central to their ambitions.
