Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy has apologised to Mallorca’s Vedat Muriqi after a reckless challenge in Sunday’s La Liga clash that could lead to further disciplinary action, Soccernet.football understands.

The incident occurred during a frustrating night for the reigning champions, who were held to a 1-1 draw at Son Moix, leaving them trailing early behind rivals Barcelona, who secured a win in their opening fixture.

The tension peaked seven minutes into stoppage time when Mendy, in an attempt to halt a Mallorca counterattack, launched into a dangerous sliding tackle on Muriqi.

The French defender’s studs connected with the Kosovan striker at waist height, leading to an immediate red card from the referee.

The dismissal, although brief due to the late timing, leaves Real Madrid without one of their key defenders for the upcoming match against Real Valladolid.

According to reports from CadenaSER, Mendy quickly realised the severity of his actions and approached Muriqi to offer a sincere apology.

The 29-year-old left-back will now serve at least a one-match suspension, with the possibility of an extended ban depending on the decision of the Competitions Committee.
