Manchester United have seen their double bid for defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui rejected by Bayern Munich, Soccernet.football understands.

United continue to seek defensive reinforcements in the transfer market and have identified the Bayern duo as solutions to their current issues.

Personal terms have already been agreed with center-back De Ligt and right-back Mazraoui with both players represented by the same agent, Rafaela Pimenta. United recently submitted a joint bid to the Bundesliga giants.

However, various reports indicate that Bayern have rejected this approach, though discussions between the two clubs over a double deal are ongoing.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Pimenta and her clients are ‘bemused’ by Bayern’s decision, believing United’s offer was good enough.

They are now investigating whether the Bundesliga club have unfairly changed their stance, as Bayern had previously promised De Ligt and Mazraoui they would facilitate summer exits if suitable offers were made.

The Red Devils entered the transfer window aiming to sign two center-backs and their resolve has now been strengthened after new signing Leny Yoro was sidelined for three months with a foot injury.

Meanwhile, Mazraoui’s arrival will depend on whether they can sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is currently in talks with West Ham United over a potential move to the west London side.

While United are expected to make further bids, either jointly or separately, they are not likely to overpay for the acquisition of either De Ligt or Mazraoui.

Having already sealed deals for striker Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro, The English giants remain in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain for Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

However, United will need to facilitate some sales to create squad space and also free up funds to expend on further incomings to avoid breaching PSR.
