Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has clarified that Manchester City has not made any official approach for Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi, despite rumours of interest from the Premier League champions, Soccernet.football reports.

Kyogo, who has been a standout player for Celtic with 73 goals in 135 appearances since he arrived in 2021, has reportedly drawn City’s attention following Julian Alvarez’s high-profile move to Atletico Madrid.

The 29-year-old has been valued at around £20 million, but Rodgers appears keen to retain his services, especially after the recent departure of Matt O’Riley to Brighton.

Addressing the speculation ahead of Celtic’s upcoming fixture against St Mirren, Rodgers said: “There’s been so many players linked with going away but that’s no different, there’s nothing concrete.”

The former Liverpool manager emphasised that there has been no contact from Manchester City, dismissing the rumours as mere gossip.

“Naturally it comes and we just deal with it. But there’s been nothing from Man City. It’s obviously rumour and gossip. I haven’t spoken to him directly on that,” Rodgers remarked.

Rodgers further downplayed the speculation, stating that his focus remains firmly on Celtic and their preparations for the weekend match.

He also highlighted Kyogo’s positive impact in training, confirming the forward’s availability for the upcoming game.

“Most importantly for me is he is now back feeling comfortable on the grass. He has been brilliant in training the last couple of days and he will be available for the weekend.”

Kyogo’s contributions have previously been lauded by Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, who signed him during his tenure at Celtic, describing the forward as a key player who consistently delivers in big matches.
