Lothar Matthäus reveals why Germany’s Jamal Musiala is better than Spain’s Lamine Yamal

German football legend Lothar Matthäus has expressed his preference for Jamal Musiala over Spain’s Lamine Yamal, Soccernet.ng reports.

This comes ahead of Germany’s quarterfinal clash with Spain at Euro 2024.

Spain, the favourites to win, have been a tough opponent for Germany. The last time Germany defeated Spain in a competitive match was at Euro 1988.

Despite this, Matthäus is optimistic about Germany’s chances. He believes that Germany, with stars like Musiala, can match Spain’s talent, including players like Yamal and Rodri.

Musiala, 21, has scored three goals in four games at Euro 2024, while 16-year-old Yamal has provided two assists. Matthäus argues that Musiala’s advanced development makes him a more potent threat than Yamal.

“Our team can embarrass Spain at any time,” Matthäus wrote in Sport Bild, as per Spox.

“I’m not saying that we have the better Jamal in Musiala – but we have the more mature one. I prefer him to Yamal at this tournament, and not just as a patriot.

“Because our number 10 is more dangerous in front of goal than the Spaniard, which he has proven with three goals at the European Championships.”

Germany will need to play smart against Spain, Matthäus added. He acknowledged that both teams have similar strengths and weaknesses, making for an exciting match.

Reflecting on Germany’s last competitive win against Spain in 1988, Matthäus emphasized that it’s time for another victory.
