The Netherlands national team faces another setback as midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is confirmed to miss the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament, Soccernet.football reports.

Koopmeiners, who plays for Atalanta, felt groin discomfort during the warm-up before a friendly match against Iceland. Jerdy Schouten replaced him in the starting lineup. A medical examination later revealed that the 26-year-old would need about a month to recover, ruling him out of the competition.

This comes after the Netherlands also lost key midfielders Marten de Roon and Frenkie de Jong to injuries.

In the last season, Koopmeiners played 51 matches, scored 15 goals, and provided 7 assists. He was instrumental in helping Atalanta win their first Europa League trophy.

The Netherlands will begin their Euro 2024 campaign on June 16 against Poland and will also face France and Austria in the group stage.

Liverpool Interested in Teun Koopmeiners

Liverpool is reportedly targeting Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners for a summer transfer. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Koopmeiners, valued at around £50 million, is likely to leave Atalanta and has attracted interest from both Liverpool and Juventus.

Despite his injury, Koopmeiners remains focused on finding a new club after his recovery. Liverpool believes Koopmeiners could bring a unique skill set to their midfield, adding goals and linking play effectively.

The 25-year-old’s versatility and technical ability have been praised by his manager, Gian Piero Gasperini. His presence could help boost Liverpool’s attacking options, potentially forming a strong partnership with Darwin Nunez.
