Lille had a decent outing in the Ligue 1 this season under the stewardship of Paulo Fonseca. The 2023/2024 campaign was their 24th consecutive season in the French top division and the four-time champions battled to a fourth place finish.

Les Dogues narrowly missed out on an automatic Champions League slot after their final day stalemate with Nice and will have to go through the qualification rounds to book a spot in the group stage next season.

Fonseca’s men also competed in the Coupe de France and Europa Conference League but they were eliminated in the Round of 16 and quarterfinals respectively.

Soccernet.football has ranked the best players of Lille’s 2023/2024 campaign.

5. Angel Gomes

Gomes made a bold decision to leave Manchester United and English football to join Lille in 2020 and the risk has paid off for the 23-year-old, who has since gone on to become a standout player for Les Dogues.

Fonseca has unlocked the former Man United midfielder since coming onboard in 2022, utilizing him in a number 8 role where he flourished for Lille this season.

Gomes contributed in attack for Les Dogues with 8 assists in 31 Ligue 1 appearances.

4. Leny Yoro

The 18-year-old Frenchman is a Lille academy product who made his senior debut in 2022 at just 16 years old. Yoro has gone on to establish himself in the first team, with his performances for Les Dogues this season making him one of the most sought after young talents in Europe.

Yoro showed all the qualities of a top class center-back during the campaign, displaying intelligence on the ball, an impressive ability to read the game, good passing range and great pace.

The 6ft3 youngster featured in 32 Ligue 1 matches and scored twice but it was his composure in defense that caught the eye this season.

3. Benjamin Andre

The former Rennes captain who joined Les Dogues in 2019 was one of the most important players in Fonseca’s setup this season, featuring heavily this campaign and rewarding his manager’s trust with solid performances.

The Frenchman was a stalwart in midfield throughout the season, protecting the back line by disrupting opposition attack and contributing in attack with goals.

Andre scored four goals in 30 Ligue 1 appearances for Les Dogues this season.

2. Edon Zhegrova

The 24-year-old attacker is another player who has flourished under the tutelage of Fonseca, enjoying an impressive 2023/2024 campaign with Lille.

The Kosovo international played a significant role in Les Dogues’ season as they battled Stade Brestois 29 for the last automatic Champions League spot.

Zhegrova was a reliable source of goals and assists for the team, netting six goals and creating another six across 33 Ligue 1 appearances for Lille this campaign.

1. Jonathan David

Lille’s number nine endured a slow start to the 2023/2024 campaign but the Canadian International soon rediscovered his form and re-established his reputation as one of the French league’s most prolific strikers.

David was Fonseca’s most lethal weapon in attack this campaign, amassing an impressive goal tally surpassed only by PSG’s Kylian Mbappe and displaying the creative side of his game as well.

The 24-year-old center-forward notched 19 goals and provided 4 assists across 34 Ligue 1 appearances for Les Dogues this campaign.
