Top 5: Liverpool’s best players of the 2023/2024 season
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Liverpool have ended their 2023/2024 Premier League campaign in third place, behind Arsenal and eventual winners Manchester City. The Reds were flying at the turn of the year only to have their momentum halted by an injury crisis.

Despite falling short in the league, Liverpool can look back on the season with a smile, having won the EFL Cup and secured Champions League qualification ahead of next season.

Soccernet.football has ranked Liverpool’s best performers in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at the helm.

5. Trent Alexander-Arnold

This season, Alexander-Arnold once again proved his exceptional talent, earning comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne from figures like Gary Neville due to his remarkable ability on the ball.

It’s easy to see why Klopp gave Alexander-Arnold such freedom, or even placed him in midfield, when witnessing his ability to earn points with spectacular strikes, such as those against Manchester City and Fulham.

Despite being sidelined through injury for two months, Alexander-Arnold still ranks second at Liverpool for chances created (78) and successful crosses (59), and fourth for possession won (209), underscoring his importance to his hometown club.

The England international contributed 3 goals and 4 assists in 28 Premier League outings for the Reds this season.

4. Andy Robertson

Robertson had a brilliant start to the 2023/2024 Premier League campaign, looking like he was back to his best before suffering a shoulder injury while away on international duty with Scotland in October.

Joe Gomez did a decent job filling in at left-back, but Robertson demonstrated exactly what Liverpool had been missing offensively when he returned to the field.

The Scottish international even scored in consecutive Premier League games for the first time in his career during a strong finish to the season. He scored 3 goals and created another 2 in 23 league appearances for the Reds.

3. Conor Bradley

The Irish youngster is duly considered by many as Liverpool’s revelation of the season. Following a highly productive loan spell at Bolton Wanderers, the Northern Ireland international did an outstanding job filling in for Alexander-Arnold.

The 20-year-old right-back established himself as a key figure for Klopp’s side in the absence of the injured Alexander-Arnold after only making his debut for The Reds towards the end of January.

Bradley added an extra dimension to Liverpool’s attacking play, grabbing his first senior goal in a win over Chelsea and providing 3 assists across 11 Premier League appearances this season.

2. Virgil van Dijk

After the Liverpool skipper’s poor start to the season, there was chatter that the 32-year-old defender was in decline.

However, van Dijk capped a remarkable revival by heading home the winner in Liverpool’s EFL Cup final win against Chelsea after yet another dominant display at the back.

Obviously, as skipper, van Dijk must take his share of the blame for the defensive shortcomings that derailed Liverpool’s season but, truth be told, The Reds would have been lost without him as he won more aerial duels (129), and made more interceptions (35) and blocks than any of his team-mates (33).

The Netherlands international scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists, his performances for The Reds this season, earning him a Player of the Season nomination.

1. Mohammed Salah

Salah has set really high standards for himself since joining Liverpool in 2107 as many are of the opinion that he had an underwhelming season despite being Liverpool’s best attacker by a mile.

Salah’s participation in the mid-season Africa Cup of Nations proved more costly than expected, as he sustained an injury against the Ivory Coast from which he never fully recovered.

Nevertheless, he was a key player in attack for The Reds throughout the campaign, during which he surpassed 200 goals for the club.

The 31-year-old Egyptian international reached double figures for both his goals and assists tally, notching 18 goals and providing 10 assists across 32 Premier League appearances for the Reds this season.
