Colombian midfielder James Rodríguez is in talks with Peru’s Alianza Lima and MLS club Inter Miami regarding a potential transfer, Soccernet.football reports.

As the mid-season transfer market in South America approaches, rumours are swirling about potential moves in Peru’s League 1.

According to Bolavip, Rodríguez is negotiating with Alianza Lima to join the team for the second half of the Clausura 2024. The former Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Sao Paulo star is also attracting interest from the United States.

Inter Miami, who already boast several former Europe-based stars, including Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Busquets, are also keen on signing Rodríguez.

Fellow MLS campaigners LA Galaxy, are also interested in the Colombian midfielder.

Alianza Lima are, however, leading the race to secure the signature of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner as they are desperate to strengthen their squad

Earlier this year, Alianza Lima considered a major investment for Paolo Guerrero. Now, they might redirect those resources to secure Rodríguez, who has had an inconsistent season in Brazil.

In 2024, Rodríguez has struggled for game time, scoring just 1 goal and providing 1 assist in 8 games for Sao Paulo.

After three months without a club following his contract with Greece’s Olympiacos, Rodríguez joined Sao Paulo in July 2023 on a two-year deal set to expire in 2025.
