Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is convinced Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are a world ahead of Manchester United, Soccernet.football reports.

Shearer shared his opinion after watching United fall to another disappointing 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

That United loss is the latest of an appalling campaign that has seen Erik ten Hag’s team set all sorts of unwanted milestones.

The Red Devils have been beaten 19 times in all competitions, last losing more in a single campaign in 1977/78.

One would have to go back to 1970/71 for the last time they conceded more than the 82 goals they have shipped in that time.

They are in the FA Cup final but are set to miss out on qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.

Injuries have not helped manager Erik Ten Hag, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount, Lisandro Martínez, and Tyrell Malacia all unavailable for the Arsenal game.

Still, Shearer thinks even with the injured players, Man United are not on the same level as their Premier League rivals.

And the former Blackburn Rovers hero insists this Red Devils team is the worst he has ever watched.

“I think that’s the worst Man United team I’ve seen in my lifetime,” Shearer, who was born in 1970, summed up on The Rest Is Football, as per the Daily Mail.

“You can’t fault their effort – they tried (against Arsenal).

“But in terms of ability, and I know they’ve got loads of injuries, but would you argue against me being the worst in my lifetime that I’ve seen?

“They’ve been in decline for such a long time that it is going to take them a long time to get anywhere near. They’re miles off it.

“Even the players that you mentioned who are out injured, even if they are all fit, it’s still going to take them a long time to be challenging, to be where City are or where Liverpool have been or Arsenal.

“They’re a million miles away, even with those.”

United have won only 16 of their 36 league games and cannot finish above sixth place even if other results go their way.
