Atalanta will lock horns with Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final after the two teams secured victories in their respective semi-final matchups, Soccernet.football reports.

Under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta has exhibited remarkable performance on the European stage this season, earning them a spot in the Dublin Arena for a shot at silverware.

It is the first time Atalanta will reach the final of any European competition in their history.

Additionally, the Bergamo side will contend for the Coppa Italia trophy against Juventus later this month.

Having navigated through a challenging Europa League group featuring Sporting, Sturm Graz, and Rakow Czestochowa, Atalanta triumphed over Sporting CP in the Round of 16 and Liverpool in the quarterfinals.

Subsequently, they faced a formidable challenge in the semi-finals against Olympique Marseille.

In the first leg of their Europa League semi-final, Atalanta held Marseille to a 1-1 draw at the Stade Velodrome. In the decisive second leg, they seized control with a 3-0 victory, securing their place in the final.

Former Everton winger Ademola Lookman was the hero for the Italians as he scored the first and set up Matteo Ruggeri to net the second before substitute El Bilal Toure bagged a late third.

In the other semifinal, Bayer Leverkusen pulled off another late showing to earn a 2-2 draw at home to AS Roma, securing a 4-2 aggregate victory.

Having lost the first leg 2-0 in Rome last week, Daniel De Rossi’s men turned the table around inside the BayerArena, taking a two-nil lead courtesy of a pair of Leandro Paredes penalties.

However, Bayer fought back through a Gianluca Mancini own goal and a stoppage-time equaliser from Josip Stanisic to extend their unbeaten record to 49 games in all competitions – the best of any European team ever.

The stage is now set for Atalanta to take on Bayer Leverkusen at the Aviva Stadium in the Europa League final on May 22nd.
