Chelsea have won the Women’s Super League title for the fifth consecutive season, Soccernet.football reports.

The championship was decided on the final day, with Chelsea securing a 6-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. This match also marked the end of Emma Hayes’ 12-year tenure as Chelsea manager, during which she won seven league titles.

Goals from Mayra Ramirez (brace), Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, Sjoeke Nusken, Melanie Leupolz, and Fran Kirby sealed the win. Ramirez was named Player of the Match.

Chelsea finished the season with 18 wins, one draw, and three losses, scoring 71 goals and conceding just 18, setting a new WSL season record.

Emma Hayes leaves Chelsea with an impressive record, including seven league titles, five FA Cups, two Continental Cups, the Spring Series, and a Community Shield. The team also reached the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in 2020.

This title win is also a farewell to club legends Fran Kirby and Maren Mjelde, who will leave the club after nine and seven years, respectively.

Manchester City, despite a strong season, could not surpass Chelsea on the final day of the campaign.

After losing to Arsenal, they had a +7 goal difference with one game remaining. Chelsea’s 8-0 win over Bristol later on the day erased that advantage. City needed a significant win but fell short despite a 2-1 victory.

Even if Chelsea had won 1-0 against United, City’s 2-1 win would not have been sufficient to claim the title.
