Remo Stars’ Kayode Bankole reveals main goal after earning Super Eagles call-up

Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole has set a goal for himself after receiving his first call-up to the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, Footynaija.com reports.

Bankole was initially included in Eric Chelle’s 39-man provisional squad alongside Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye and Amas Obasogie. The Nigeria Professional Football League star then beat the more established Okoye to a place in Chelle’s final 23-man squad, to the surprise of a number of fans.

However, for lovers and ardent followers of the NPFL, Bankole’s inclusion in the Super Eagles squad is a well deserved reward. The 22-year-old shot-stopper has been a consistent performer for Remo Stars this campaign as they charge towards the title.

Bankole’s main goal

In a recent interview with Premium Times following his call-up, Bankole opened up on his main goal, heading into his first Super Eagles camp.

“Contributing my own quota to the team, and helping in anyway I can, either from the bench or on the field of play,” the Remo Stars goalkeeper said.

“I am also going there to learn as well, and give 100% as usual, as seen always at my club. I would be giving my all, as this is an opportunity I do not take for granted.”

A potential first cap for Bankole?

Speaking further on how he would handle a first appearance between the sticks for Nigeria if called upon by Super Eagles head coach Chelle, Bankole continued;

“Well, if I’m being called up to play, of course, I’ll do things the same way I’ve been doing in my team.

“Definitely, I’ll still organise the defence the same way I used to do, by calling the right person at the right time, communicating with them, directing them well on where to go, and stuff like that.

“Nothing changes, football is the same everywhere. Though the level is different, the best thing is to stay calm and communicate the same way I used to communicate.”

The Super Eagles are billed to face Rwanda on March 21 before taking on Zimbabwe four days later. Bankole will be relishing the opportunity to earn a first cap for Nigeria and help to revive his nation’s World Cup qualification hopes.
