Nigeria’s U17 Women’s team, the Flamingos, delivered a commanding performance in a 6-1 thrashing of Nakamura FA in a friendly match at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Footynaija.com reports.

The emphatic victory serves as a vital warm-up ahead of their crucial FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifying showdown against South Africa next month.

Bankole Olowookere’s side wasted no time asserting their superiority, opening the scoring in the ninth minute through Chisom Nwachukwu. The forward latched onto a precise pass before expertly going past the goalkeeper and slotting home to give the Flamingos an early lead.

Chidi Harmony quickly doubled the advantage three minutes later, finishing off a well-worked team move. The young forward then struck again in the 17th minute, completing her brace and putting Nigeria firmly in control with a 3-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes.

The Flamingos maintained their attacking intensity in the second half, continuing to carve open Nakamura FA’s defence.

In the 58th minute, Queen Joseph added a fourth with a composed finish. Shakirat Moshood then curled home a superb effort in the 64th minute. Joseph struck again in the 72nd minute, grabbing her second of the game and extending the scoreline to 6-0.

Although Nakamura FA managed to grab a late consolation goal, courtesy of an own goal in the dying moments, it did little to dampen the Flamingos’ impressive display.

With their two-legged World Cup qualifier against South Africa scheduled between March 7 and 16, the Flamingos will take confidence from their dominant performance. Four teams from Africa will secure qualification for the tournament in Morocco, joining the hosts as CAF representatives.

Head coach Olowookere will now look to fine-tune his squad, ensuring they are tactically and mentally prepared for the challenge that lies ahead.
