It was a bittersweet night for Nigerian stars in the UEFA Champions League as George Ilenikhena, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze all featured, but their clubs suffered elimination from the competition, Footynaija.com reports.

Benfica 3-3 Monaco (4-3 on aggregate): Ilenikhena scores, but Monaco fall short

Nigerian teenager George Ilenikhena was on target for AS Monaco, but his side fell agonisingly short as Benfica progressed to the Champions League Round of 16 with a 4-3 aggregate victory following a dramatic 3-3 draw.

Monaco, trailing 1-0 from the first leg, found themselves behind again when Kerem Aktürkoğlu struck in the 22nd minute. Takumi Minamino quickly restored parity before Eliesse Ben Seghir gave the visitors hope with a second-half goal. However, a contentious VAR-awarded penalty allowed Vangelis Pavlidis to put Benfica ahead again.

Ilenikhena, introduced in the 75th minute, made an instant impact, pouncing on a defensive mistake to level the tie at 3-3 on aggregate. But Monaco’s hopes were dashed when Orkun Kökcü’s strike secured Benfica’s passage to the next round.

Atalanta 1-3 Club Brugge (2-5 on aggregate): Lookman’s goal not enough

Ademola Lookman provided a spark off the bench for Atalanta, but his goal could not prevent a 3-1 defeat to Club Brugge, who advanced with a dominant 5-2 aggregate win.

Raphael Onyedika played a key role in midfield as Brugge stormed into a commanding lead through goals from Chemsdine Talbi (2) and Ferrán Jutglà.

Lookman, introduced from the bench at halftime after his return from injury, pulled one back early in the second half, but Atalanta’s hopes faded after his penalty was saved by Simon Mignolet. A late red card for Rafael Toloi sealed their exit.

AC Milan 1-1 Feyenoord (1-2 on aggregate): Chukwueze’s late introduction fails to spark Milan

AC Milan’s Champions League campaign ended in disappointment as they were held 1-1 by Feyenoord, who progressed 2-1 on aggregate.

Santiago Gimenez, signed from Feyenoord, hit an early strike that gave Milan hope, but the Italian giants’ wastefulness in front of goal proved costly.

To recap:

• Feyenoord sacked their coach
• Sold their best player to milan
• Lost their captain to injury yesterday
• Got scored on by the player they sold to Milan

A second-half red card for Theo Hernández shifted momentum, and Feyenoord capitalised through Julián Carranza’s header. Chukwueze was introduced late on, but Milan could not find the crucial second goal.
