Former Southampton midfielder Carlton Palmer has urged Watford to make a move for Nottingham Forest striker Emmanuel Dennis, who finds himself frozen out at the Premier League club, Soccernet.football reports.

The 27-year-old Nigerian forward was deemed surplus to requirements at Nottingham Forest ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Despite being linked with a summer exit, the transfer window closed without a move, leaving Dennis in limbo at the City Ground. He has since been excluded from Nottingham Forest’s Premier League squad and overlooked for FA Cup and Carabao Cup matches.

Dennis, under contract with Forest until June 2026, has not featured for the club since the final day of the 2022/23 season. Reports suggest he is being monitored by three Championship clubs and teams from La Liga and Serie A ahead of the January transfer window.

Palmer, speaking to Football Insider, believes Watford – where Dennis previously enjoyed a productive spell – would be the perfect destination. The striker recorded 14 goals and six assists across 55 matches during his time at Vicarage Road.

“The Championship clubs that are interested in him are unknown, and we’ll have to wait and see which clubs will come in for him,” Palmer said. “He would be a shrewd acquisition. He may go to Watford on loan again, but we’ll have to wait and see.

“Who would I see him being a good fit for? I think he enjoyed his time at Watford. He will want to get out on the pitch, and he will want to go to a club with ambition. So anybody at the top of the league will be in the hunt for that type of player.

“You would think that maybe going back to Watford, where he enjoyed his football, would be a good move for him.”

Watford, currently eighth in the Championship with 38 points, sit just two points shy of the final playoff spot occupied by West Brom. A January move for Dennis could bolster their promotion push and offer the player a chance to revive his career.
