West Ham United are reportedly considering a move for Nottingham Forest’s Nigerian forward Taiwo Awoniyi as they look to address their striker injury woes, Soccernet.football understands.

According to trusted insider ExWHUEmployee, via GIVEMESPORT, the Hammers have identified Awoniyi as a potential solution to their depleted attacking options.

Manager Graham Potter, who recently took charge at the London club, is keen to strengthen his squad after an inconsistent campaign that has seen West Ham win just six of their 20 Premier League matches.

The club is desperate for reinforcements in attack following the long-term injury to Michail Antonio, whose broken leg has left a significant void up front.

Awoniyi, who joined Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin for a then-club record £17 million in July 2022, has endured a challenging time at the City Ground.

The Super Eagles striker arrived in England on the back of an excellent spell in Germany where he smashed 21 Bundesliga goals.

Limited opportunities under Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo have seen him start just two of the club’s 15 league games this season, scoring only once. Chris Wood’s preference as the leading striker has further restricted Awoniyi’s chances.

Despite these challenges, the Super Eagles star remains highly regarded for his physicality and target-man attributes, qualities that West Ham believe could make him an ideal replacement for Antonio.

Awoniyi’s performances during his time in Germany, where he flourished with Union Berlin, have not been forgotten, and the 26-year-old may welcome a fresh start to reignite his career.

While Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo recently expressed confidence in Awoniyi’s value to the team, his limited role suggests a move could be on the cards.

With two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, any potential transfer would hinge on whether West Ham can meet Forest’s valuation and persuade the Nigerian forward to make the switch.
