Germany have announced their official squad for the 2024 European Champions (Euro 2024), which the country will host from mid-June to mid-July this year, Soccernet.football reports.

On Thursday, the German Football Association (DFB) revealed the 27 players selected by head coach Julian Nagelsmann. He will need to cut one player before the tournament begins on 14 June.

Among the notable names is Toni Kroos. The Real Madrid midfielder returned to the national team after retiring following Germany’s disappointing performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Kroos played in the recent victories against France (2-0) and the Netherlands (2-1) in March and will now be one of the team’s leaders.

Nagelsmann’s squad includes four goalkeepers: Manuel Neuer, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Oliver Baumann, and Alexander Nubel. Baumann has been part of the team for several years without making his debut, while Nubel, currently on loan at Stuttgart, is making his first appearance in the squad.

Six Bayern Munich players, including Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané, have been selected. Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger joins Kroos as a representative of the La Liga champions.

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz and Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross are the only players from the Premier League in the squad. Newly crowned Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen have two players included: midfielder Florian Wirtz and defender Jonathan Tah.

Germany have qualified for every European Championship since 1972.

As hosts, they did not need to play in the qualifying rounds for this edition. The Germans have won the tournament three times, most recently in 1996 in England, and are tied with Spain for the most titles.

They lost the 2008 final to Spain. In the 2012 and 2016 tournaments, they reached the semi-finals, and in 2021, under Joachim Low, they were knocked out in the last 16 by England.
