Ikorodu City midfielder Adeoye Aderemi has reacted after helping Nigeria battle to a thrilling 3-3 draw away to Russia, Footynaija reports.
Aderemi was the only NPFL player to feature for the Super Eagles against Russia, with Enugu Rangers midfielder Kelechi Igboke remaining an unused substitute.
The 19-year-old was making only his third appearance for Nigeria after previously featuring in the Unity Cup games against Zimbabwe and Jamaica.
Tuesday’s friendly was a different experience for Aderemi as he made his first start for the Super Eagles, playing 70 minutes before being replaced by goalscorer Peter Edokpolor.
The defensive midfielder impressed during his hour on the pitch, completing 96 per cent of his passes, including all three attempts into the final third.
Aderemi also produced a tidy and aggressive display defensively, making five recoveries, one clearance and one interception. He won three of his seven duels and was dribbled past only twice.
The teenager was pleased with his performance and took to Twitter to express his pride at representing Nigeria.
“Always a privilege to represent this beautiful country, I will always give my all.”
Aderemi left the pitch with Nigeria trailing Russia 3-1, but the Super Eagles produced a remarkable late comeback.
Edokpolor reduced the deficit before Akor Adams struck late to rescue a 3-3 draw for Eric Chelle’s side and deny Russia victory on home soil.
